About

Our Mission

Making a Difference in a Child’s Life

At Flourish Airway Collective, we take the time to get to know our little patients and their families, catering our care to their needs and making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. We believe that as our most prized possession, nothing is more important than our children; creating a foundation of good health from infancy through childhood is the greatest gift we can help provide. Our approach to tongue tie care is conservative yet functional and comprehensive, emphasizing nutrition, sleep, and whole body wellness with a compassionate touch. As an advocate for honoring anatomical and physiological normalcies, our practice’s goal is to address the importance of establishing optimal oral motor function and tongue posture early on to support feeding, breathing, sleeping, and speaking habits as babies grow. Collaborative care that holds a focus on empowering parents is something that Dr. Ozzie and her team are so passionate about!

Dr. Ozzie Jafarnia

As the heart and soul behind Danville Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, Dr. Ozzie has been dedicated to nurturing the well-being of young ones in the East Bay for nearly two decades. Beyond her role as a practitioner, Dr. Ozzie is also a mother to three lovely daughters. Through both professional expertise and personal experience, she has observed recurring challenges, especially in the realm of sleep and the holistic health of children, extending beyond just dental concerns.

Throughout her fulfilling career, Dr. Ozzie has developed a deep passion for functional pediatric dentistry, recognizing the profound impact that subtle adjustments can make. As a parent herself, her commitment to understanding the significance of sleep and its broader effects has inspired a fresh vision for her practice. Driven by the belief in the benefits of early interventions, she aims to optimize the health of infants and toddlers as early as possible. This dedication is now manifested in the creation of Flourish Airway Collective, a warm and inviting space where parents and their children can discover hope and care in various forms.

In this collaborative environment, Dr. Ozzie brings her expertise with a soothing and kindhearted approach. Her goal is to help little ones regain their functionality, fostering the hope that they will enjoy a lifetime of flourishing smiles. Dr. Ozzie takes pride in successfully treating newborns, toddlers, children, and teens with oral restrictions. Moreover, she provides families with the knowledge needed to support their child's oral motor skills, offering appropriate therapeutic and feeding support referrals for a personalized and comprehensive approach. Driven by a passion for collaborative care that empowers parents, she is excited to share this journey with families at Flourish Airway Collective.

Your Child’s First Visit

A Soothing Experience

You and your child will be welcomed by one of our warm and friendly team members, and we’ll answer any financing questions you may have to make your appointment as smooth as possible. Based on your child’s age, we will gently assess their smile and oral development with a complimentary consultation that consists of the following steps:

Initial Assessment: Dr. Ozzie will evaluate your child's oral anatomy, checking for any lip and/or tongue ties. This may involve observation of feeding (for infants), speaking, or other oral movements. You may also be asked about any feeding, speech, or breathing issues your child is experiencing.

Discussion & Education: Dr. Ozzie will discuss her findings with you, explaining the potential impacts of the tie(s) on your child's health and development. Treatment options, potential benefits, risks, and aftercare procedures will also be discussed.

Procedure: If Dr. Ozzie determines that intervention is required and necessary, a quick surgical procedure called a frenectomy may be performed, which involves releasing the restrictive frenulum, a piece of tissue connecting the tongue to the floor of the mouth or the lip to the gum. The procedure is typically done using a laser or scissors, often with a local anesthetic to ensure your child's comfort.

Follow-up appointments may be scheduled to monitor healing and to provide guidance on exercises or therapies to help with optimal tongue and lip movement post-procedure.
